Our vision mission and values are displayed here too. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is responsible for rating the quality of care within every care provider across England. CQC ratings for Optalis are covered in the next section.

There are ten Optalis regulated services providing care and support to adults, including those with mental health needs, dementia, elderly persons and other health, physical or neurological conditions. The regulators the Care Quality Commission (CQC), inspect these services.

The Freedom of Information Act was passed to ensure public authorities publish certain information about their activities and means that members of the public are able to request information from public authorities

The Freedom of Information Act 2000

Optalis must comply with the Freedom of Information Act because from 1st September 2013 the definition of public authorities was extended to include companies wholly owned by councils. The Act places 2 main responsibilities on public authorities:

  • To produce a publication scheme
  • To provide a general right of access to all types of recorded information which it holds (subject to certain exempt categories of information)

Since July 2018 Optalis has dealt with requests to do with Adult Social Care, including its provision and costs (prior to this date the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead dealt with the FOI’s)

Compliance

On receipt of a written request for recorded information, the requester must be notified whether the authority holds that information and if so must be supplied with that information, if possible, in the manner requested.

The organisation must respond promptly to a request and within 20 working days. If an exemption is applied the applicant must be informed and the reason explained.

If you wish to make a Freedom of Information Act request then you can do so by emailing the Freedom of Information Team.

What happens next?

  • We'll acknowledge the request within 3 working days
  • We'll respond to requests within 20 working days

How much does it cost?

  • It is free to make a request
  • In some circumstances, we may charge for photocopies of documents

Please note that a request for personal information on yourself is regulated by the Data Protection Act 2018; for this you will need to make a Subject Access Request. This can be done by a verbal request, phone, letter or email.

We are able to refuse requests when they are manifestly unfounded or excessive. We can also charge a reasonable fee in these exceptional circumstances; otherwise, there is no fee involved. For more information please contact our Data Subject Access Request Team

Optalis have only started recording stats and responding to the FOI requests when we merged with The Royal Borough of Wokingham, Maidenhead and Windsor in July 2018.
