About our day opportunities

We offer day opportunities for people with physical disabilities and long-term conditions. Our aim is to provide a service that is shaped around each person, fully accessible and enjoyable to be part of.

We operate three days a week, from Monday to Wednesday, at Matthewsgreen Community Centre. It is a warm and welcoming place where you can connect with others, feel included and enjoy what matters to you.

What you can expect

A supportive community

You will find a friendly space where you can relax and socialise. There is room for conversation, shared humour and mutual support.

A focus on your wellbeing

Your wellbeing is important. Whether you want to keep your mind active, explore interests, build confidence or simply enjoy your day, we are here to support you.

Choice at the centre

You choose how you spend your time. You can join group activities, try something new or enjoy quiet time. We understand that your needs and energy can change, and we will adapt with you.

Accessibility and inclusion

Matthewsgreen Community Centre has spacious activity rooms, a fully accessible kitchen and a Changing Places toilet. All of our staff are trained to support people with varied care and support needs, from medication to personal care. The space is designed so everyone can move around comfortably and take part in a way that suits them.

Activities that reflect your interests

You can choose from a wide range of activities, including:

  • Creative projects, such as woodworking, crafts and knitting
  • Cooking and baking
  • Entertainment and technology
  • Games, quizzes and puzzles
  • Gardening
  • Light exercise

Each month we share an activity calendar so you can pick the things that appeal to you. Sessions are led by the Optalis team as well as guests and local groups. Activities often reflect the seasons and cultural events.

We also enjoy getting out and about to nearby parks, cafes, garden centres, museums and other community spaces.

Shaped by you

This service is guided by your ideas, your experience and what matters to you. We work with you, listen to you and adapt with you.

"We have always received such kind and friendly welcome as a whole family. You have all been so accommodating and flexible in (my husband's) needs and he really enjoys his cooking with you"
