Mandy goes to Birmingham

On 9th March Mandy Loveday, Senior Support Worker at Wokingham Learning Disabilities Day Service, travelled to the final judging day of the National Great British Care Awards in Birmingham. Mandy is in the running for the award for Ancillary Worker of the Year as a result of her amazing work to set up a Sensory Garden at the service.

Mandy said, "I was happy and grateful to have my manager, Karyn Fowle by my side for support as the nerves began. The room was full to the brim with people, who travelled from all over England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, I waited to hear my name, beginning to feel like the singers on X Factor!

The judging panel were kind and made my nerves disappear quickly, as I answered their questions. I am still in shock at winning the Regional Award and feel humbled that I am in the final.

To say I am overwhelmed by the feedback regarding our Sensory Garden Is an understatement, and I hope regardless of the final outcome I make Optalis proud to have been nominated in the first place. “

Mandy will be attending the Grand Final of the Great British Care Awards in May and we wish her the best of luck.
