Good Teams Start with Understanding and Encouragement

Our 'Good Teams Start With...' series continues. We’re shining a spotlight on the positive values that shape Optalis workplace culture — from trust and collaboration to inclusivity and support. Each article shares real stories from across the organisation, highlighting the people and moments that make our teams strong.

“The positive team culture allowed me to grow in my role and feel truly supported.”

A strong team culture and supportive environment are essential for any organisation to thrive. At Optalis, we’ve seen first-hand how encouragement and embracing our differences helps build growth and confidence. Clare and Hannah, members of the Learning and Development Team, share how their team embraces diversity and supports one another.

Both Clare and Hannah have been working towards completing their Learning and Development Practitioner Apprenticeship. Clare, who has recently completed her apprenticeship explained how her team supported her during her learning journey. “The positive team culture allowed me to grow in my role and feel truly supported,” she shared.

This support was crucial when she pursued a dyslexia diagnosis, ensuring she received the necessary adjustments to succeed. "The support and encouragement I received from the team at the that time, really helped. The confirmed diagnosis has ensured that I have the adjustments I need and the team know how I prefer to work, they've all been open and made it really easy for me. They didn’t just accept my diagnosis—they actively made sure I felt comfortable, their openness made everything easier.”

Hannah’s experience has been similar. “The last time I was in a formal learning environment was at school, and I didn’t get on so well with it. Now that I’m older, I have a much better understanding of how I learn best. Having a team that encourages me and reassures me when I doubt myself has been invaluable, their support has made all the difference.”
