Community Lives Revisits Jubilee Tree Planting Site
01 May 2025
Members of Community Lives recently revisited Ockwells Park, the site where they helped plant trees for the Queen’s Green Canopy back in January 2022. As part of the Queen's Green Canopy initiative, a total of 8,000 trees were planted at Ockwells Park. The visit was a chance to reflect on their contribution to the environment and the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
The group originally took part in a Tree Planting Day on Saturday, 15th January 2022, joining forces with others in the community to plant 25 trees in just over two hours. Two years later, they were proud to see the results of their efforts.
“Some of them are over 6 feet tall now,” said Jason, a member of the group. “They all had plastic around them to stop the deer eating them.”
It was a great morning spent reconnecting with nature, seeing the impact of their hard work, and celebrating how far the young trees have come.
Victoria Holt, Community and Development Manager, added "It is important to take the time to revisit and reflect upon the impact activities such as the tree planting makes. So often we are planning what next… the volunteers involved were reminded of how they worked with other community groups and the shared energy on the day. We weren’t too sure what to expect and none of us guessed how much the trees would have grown in the 3 years since they were planted and it was great to see."
