Christine’s Story: Finding Confidence and Connection

Christine lives in her family home with her sister and family, where she’s lived all her life. She knows her local area inside out and enjoys walking her new puppy, Teddy.

Christine gets support from Denise and Sarah, who work in Optalis’ Outreach team. They help her do the things that matter to her, like going to bingo, seeing pantomimes, getting her nails done, going out for lunch, and days out to the seaside.

Christine adds, "I enjoy looking round the shops."

For years, Christine spent time helping her mum at home. She didn’t go out much and didn’t have much time to pursue her own interests. With the support of Denise and Sarah, Christine has started to find her feet again. She has tried new things and met new people. Denise says. “Over the past four years, it’s been a pleasure to see Christine’s confidence and interests grow.”

One of her favourite places is the local bingo hall. She’s been going there for over two years, and in that time she’s made great friends. Christine says, "There's Sharon, Barbara, Doreen, Tony, Peter, Sue and Sue! It gets me out. They’re nice people.” This group celebrates birthdays and Christmas together, sharing cakes and even doing Secret Santa. Recently, they all marked Christine’s 65th birthday with cake and smiles.

Recently, Christine got her bus pass, opening up even more possibilities. Denise explains, “We can use a car for longer trips, like the seaside, and now the bus gives us extra options too.” Christine has plans to travel to Reading for some shopping soon.

Christine sums it up perfectly: “I like the staff, Denise and Sarah. They’re helpful. It gets me out to meet other people. Keeps you active.”

Christine’s story shows how the right support can make everyday life richer and more connected. With help from Denise and Sarah, she’s taking part in the things she likes, spending time with others, marking special moments, and looking forward to what’s next.
