Celebrating Eid Together at Boyn Grove Community Lives

This week people at Boyn Grove Community Lives have been sharing their excitement for their Eid celebrations. We met with some of them, and they told us about their highlights and important rituals of the day.
The group explained that after a sweet breakfast and cleansing ritual, many people go to the Mosque for prayers from 6am. Some Mosques have several sessions, as they are smaller buildings.

Abdul said, "My dad has a bath first then goes to the Mosque."

Part of the festival also involves a sacrifice. With families sharing the meat with those who need it in their community and friends.
Following prayers, friends and extended families then join each other to celebrate at home. With feasts of food, music and celebration. Groups visit each other's houses to share their meals.

Abdul continues, "I like the kebabs."
Adham said, "The children get money as gifts, sometimes I do too. I like the food!"
Others added, "I like the biryani" and "I like samosas."
Ambereen mentioned, "We wear new clothes."

Eid is one of the biggest celebrations of the year for Muslims and a special opportunity for family and friends to be together and to support their community.
