Why Professional Development at Optalis Makes a Difference

At Optalis, we are committed to supporting colleagues to learn and develop, helping them grow in their roles and strengthen the services we provide. One recent success story is Bukola, who has completed the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care. We spoke with Bukola to find out more about the impact the qualification has had on her skills and role.

Bukola began her journey in social care four years ago. Starting as a support worker supporting people with learning disabilities, she quickly progressed into more senior roles within that service. Now, as an interim Deputy Manager in care home supporting people with dementia, she continues to build her skills, knowledge and leadership capability. Above all, her motivation remains rooted in genuine passion for the work,

“Working in care is a passion. I love it.”

Reflecting on the experience, Bukola said, “The programme has been truly impactful and has given me valuable insight into my role.” The qualification supported her to build confidence in leadership and decision‑making. “I now have a deeper understanding of my leadership style and feel more confident making informed decisions, particularly in complex or high‑pressure situations.”

Bukola also highlighted how she now has a strengthened understanding of managing and supporting teams “It helped me improve my skills in supervision, delegation, performance management, and conflict resolution, helping me to motivate staff and build a positive team culture."

Reflecting on the overall impact, Bukola said, “The qualification has made me feel more capable, empowered, and prepared for higher responsibilities.”  "I am a career person. Once I choose a career, I give it my full focus.” She values the diverse opportunities offered within the care sector,

“Care is broad, there is a lot of diversity and you can take the path you choose to follow your passion.”

Her experience at Optalis has reinforced that sense of opportunity,

“At Optalis you have the opportunity to grow if you are willing. The training team are supportive and offer good guidance.”

Bukola's experience highlights the value of learning and development at Optalis and how investing in our people supports strong leadership, confident teams, and high‑quality care.
