Jason’s Journey to the Finish Line
23 July 2025
Six weeks of dedication and training came to life when Jason stepped up for the Parallel 5K. With Laura, a coach from Leisure Focus Braywick, by his side, and joined by team members from Optalis Community Lives, he took on the challenge with heart and humour.
The treadmill had once been a struggle, but Jason pushed himself to build stamina, working hard each week with support from Sam and Laura. Jason added,
“I couldn’t go on the treadmill for so long, for 20 mins or so, and did more practice for the event."
"It was challenging,” Jason said. “But both the ladies were so encouraging. They kept saying, ‘You can do it, Jason!’”
On race day, he ran alongside Mikala and Laura, powering down Windsor’s Long Walk—past the Copper Horse and into the distance. He reappeared still running, still smiling, and proudly crossed the finish line.
“I’m not doing the 10K though!” he laughed. “Maybe again—but not that far!”
John, a team member from Optalis Community Lives, who supports Jason to visit Braywick each week commented,
"Crossing the finish line, medal in hand, Jason still smiling showed us all what determination looks like. Jason’s pride in his achievement is a memory that will stay with me forever."
