Good Teams Start With Connection and Celebration
12 August 2025
Our 'Good Teams Start With...' series continues. We’re shining a spotlight on the positive values that shape Optalis workplace culture — from trust and collaboration to inclusivity and support. Each article shares real stories from across the organisation, highlighting the people and moments that make our teams strong.
At STS&R (Short Term Support and Reablement) team culture is built through everyday actions; moments of connection, care, and celebration that bring people together. One example of this was a recent VE Day gathering. The team took a moment away from their desks, to reflect together at the Maidenhead Town Hall memorial, observing a silence to honour those who served.
It was a simple act, but one that created a real sense of unity and shared respect. Back in the office, the tone shifted to warmth and celebration.
Over a shared a lunch, a colleague shared the personal story of how her grandparents, an English soldier and a German civilian, met after the war. Through old diaries and photos, she told a story of reconciliation and connection across differences. It was a moving reminder of the importance of empathy, and it brought the team closer together.
That same spirit is shown in how the team celebrates each other. When teammates mark milestone birthdays, they are recognised with thoughtful gifts, kind words, and time set aside to come together. The team also takes time to celebrate important festivals and holidays, ensuring key cultural celebrations are marked and providing opportunities to learn about each other's traditions and backgrounds. One team member shared how lucky they felt to work with such an amazing group; and another said they felt truly seen and appreciated.
These moments of reflection, storytelling, celebration might seem small, but they build a culture where people feel valued and connected. That’s the foundation of a great team; not just working side by side but showing up for each other in meaningful ways.
