Good teams start with a culture of respect, collaboration, and support for each other

Our ‘Good Teams Start With…’ series celebrates the teams whose values and daily actions help make Optalis a great place to work. This time, we’re shining a light on the Supported Employment Service (SES), a team whose culture is rooted in belief in people’s potential, shared purpose and a commitment to improving lives. The team supports people who face barriers to employment, helping them not only find jobs but also rebuild confidence, purpose and independence. What stands out most is how they work together.

The team actively support each other. They regularly share ideas, step in to help with challenges and celebrate each other's wins. When someone has a set-back, team members will offer practical suggestions, share contacts or just check in to see how they can help.  

Team member Tracy explains: “We all work together to get leads on potential opportunities or when job searching for clients. As a team we’re encouraged to share information or resources that will support the people we work with. If we’re having a difficult day, there’s always someone to talk to.” 

The SES team works closely with each other, with employers, and with the people they support. They build on each other’s strengths and keep the focus on finding the right fit for every individual.

Team member Aiden says: “Through every high and low, our team has built a really supportive environment. People see a team that communicates well and genuinely cares and that helps them feel more supported and confident too.”

Team member Karen adds: “Respect is the foundation for all that we do. Success is shared, effort is seen and valued. We celebrate wins together and honour the dedication that makes them possible. Appreciation is a daily practice, and everyone’s work is meaningful.”

At the Supported Employment Service, people find more than just jobs, they find support, opportunity, and a team that believes in what’s possible. A strong, respectful team culture helps staff work creatively and respond quickly, making a real difference to the people they support.
