We care for our community
Since launching in 2011, Optalis has completed a number of fundraising initiatives for local and national charities - raising over £2,500. We believe that on top of the people we serve day-to-day, Optalis should be giving something back to the local area and contributing to causes within the community.
Past fundraising causes have included:
- CLASP (local learning disability advocacy group)
- Younger People with Dementia (YPWD)
- The Link Visiting Scheme
(for isolated and older people in the borough)
- Wokingham Stroke Club
- Woodley and Earley Club
- Life After Stroke Together (LAST)
- The MS Trust
- The Alzheimer's Society
We have also sponsored local events and partner initiatives, such as the annual Celebrate Age event in Earley (organised by Wokingham Borough Council), a prize for the Learning Disability Partnership Board, and we are about to sponsor a reminiscence box for the Wokingham Library Service to help enrich their loan scheme.
Optalis like to work with local organisations and forge strong links with community bases such as leisure centres and libraries. Most recently, this has included members of our Wokingham Day Service visiting a neighbouring school to complete a gardening project with them, a joint event with staff from Waitrose Wokingham at one of our care homes, and close working between our homecare team, the NHS' Intermediate Care Team (based at Wokingham Hospital), and the local Council's Health Liaison Team.
