Telecare and Assistive Technology

Connecting you to the latest technology to help you live independently

There is a wide range of devices and systems that can help you maintain or build your independence, freedom and confidence. Choose from a range of proactive, preventative solutions which can help with:

  • Monitoring and managing long term health conditions
  • Reducing anxiety and stress
  • Managing daily living tasks in a personalised way
  • Assistance to live safely in your home
  • Understanding your routine and where you may need support

There are many options of assistive technology for you to select from which includes non-invasive, fixed or wearable sensors to support you and your carers to monitor and respond to your needs. The TEC Services Association have developed a series of 10 short videos to show the possibilities of technology solutions to enhance people's lives. You can watch one the videos below - for more visit the TSA's YouTube channel.

If you would like to find out more about maintaining your independence or developing new skills with the support of technology - speak to the First Contact and Duty Team.

Further information on assistive technology can be found on the Adults, Family and Local Offer Directory, where you will also find providers of equipment and alarms.

There is also the AskSARA website which is provided by the Disability Living Foundation. The website is a source of free advice and information and can help with supporting individuals to make their own decisions about equipment.

Another useful website providing free telecare advice is Safe and Well.

Tips on buying equipment

Whether you're buying equipment or having it provided for you, it's always worth trying out the equipment for yourself first if possible.

When installing equipment, you should also consider the following:

  • Is your condition likely to deteriorate? If so, how much use will you get out of the equipment?
  • Who will be operating the equipment - you, a carer, or both?
  • Does the equipment come with a guarantee and technical support?

Lifeline Alarms

A Lifeline Alarm provides a link to the outside world for people of all ages who want to continue living independently, but want the peace of mind, that help is available when they need it. At the touch of a button, the system summons help and operates 24 hours a day, every single day of the year.

The Lifeline Alarm system is run by Housing Solutions on behalf of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. For more information, you can download the leaflet at the Housing Solutions website. There are many other providers who deliver a similar service, one example is Forestcare which is a 24 hour Telecare response centre based in Bracknell.
