The Emergency Duty Service
The Emergency Duty Service (EDS) operates between 5pm and 9am weekdays, 24 hours a day at weekends and bank holidays when the Royal Borough's Adult Services offices are closed.
The EDS is based in Bracknell, provides a response to social care crisis arising outside normal working hours, including providing an emergency social work service to the whole of Berkshire and to all social care groups.
They are here to help with any personal or family problems that reach a crisis during the night or at weekends or bank holidays and cannot wait until the next day.
EDS can help with all situations where social work advice is needed immediately, but the main problems usually supported are:
Concerns about a child outside the family
Concerns about a person with a disability
Difficulties with children or teenagers
Older people at immediate risk
Mental health emergencies
The telephone will be answered by a skilled triage worker with experience of crisis situations. If the triage worker is already talking to someone on the telephone, you will need to keep trying as there is no facility to leave a message.
Please note that all calls to the EDS are recorded for quality assurance purposes.
