Our Visual Impairment Team offer free advice this month

As part of National Eye Health Week, a member of the Optalis Visual Impairment Team (which provides the rehabilitation service for residents of Wokingham, Reading, Bracknell, Windsor and Maidenhead diagnosed with a serious eye condition), will be at venues across the borough offering information and advice.

During June, as part of its first birthday celebrations, Optalis launched a fundraising initiative with its staff to help West Berkshire’s newest charity, Younger People With Dementia (YPWD).

Pinehaven holds its annual Summer Fete

Optalis’ day service for older people based at Pinehaven Day Centre holds its annual summer fete on July 27, 11am to 3pm. Stalls will include those selling arts and crafts, a clairvoyant, Growing Places; who will be selling plants, and Westmead Day Centre, among others.

Optalis celebrates its 1st birthday!

This month saw Optalis reach its first birthday!

In June 2011, Optalis took control of all Wokingham Borough Council’s adult social care provided services. Since then, its highly-experienced and professional staff have worked hard to move the company forward, and they continue to provide high quality, specialist services to its customers.

Westmead mark Diamond Jubilee with special picnic

Optalis’ physical disability day service based at Westmead - in partnership with Westmead Support Group - held a Diamond Jubilee picnic at the centre on Wednesday May 30. The celebration was open to all Westmead customers and their family members and friends. As well as a number of activities on the day, including quizzes, a raffle, and games, there was also a tasty finger buffet picnic!

Get Out and About with our new service!

Optalis has launched an exciting, brand new ‘Out and About’ service this month. Operated by Optalis’ well-established Day Services, Out and About will operate during evenings and weekends and is aimed primarily at individuals with a learning disability and individuals with physical disabilities.


The START Team get refreshed!

The START team have recently undergone refresher training sessions which were delivered by Reablement UK over a two-day period.

The team needed a refresher to re-enforce the purpose of promoting independence to the customers who have access to our team. The main focus of the training was reablement.

Our Long Term Support Team complete extra training

LTS Manager Michelle Parry, along with Pinehaven's Activities Coordinator Angela Brench and the Long Term Support Seniors (both Community and Cockayne Court), recently attended some Bee Inspired Dementia Care Training. The purpose of the the training was to give them a more in-depth understanding of leadership in dementia care; and the skills and confidence to develop the team.

Cockayne resident turns 100!

There were celebrations at Cockayne Court last week (February 28) when resident Louisa Inman turned 100 years old. Her husband Peter was by her side on her special day, along with many members of her family - some of whom flew from Germany and Canada. Peter and Louisa have been married for 39 years and first met in 1967.

Optalis awarded new care homes contract

From April 1, 2012, Optalis will take over the management of four care homes in Berkshire after being awarded a contract by Wokingham Borough Council. The homes are currently managed by Atlas Project Team Ltd.
