Who can receive help from us?
Our services are available to people of any age providing they have a significant and professionally
diagnosed visual impairment. Advice and information is also available to carers.
To see people who are not registered as visually impaired they usually have either:
-
Less than 6/12 acuity
-
Significant field reduction
How can we help?
We aim to provide and tailor the right help to each person. Individual needs and problems can vary
considerably, but we have access to a wide range of resources which includes:
-
Advice, training and equipment
-
Independent living skills, orientation and mobility
-
Referrals to other services e.g. Occupational Therapists
-
Advice on accessing personal budgets
- A Braille Printing Service
- A Communicator Guide Service for Deafblind people
When you contact us, the Duty Officer will discuss your situation with you and offer information and advice.
A referral can then be taken for a Rehabilitation Worker to visit you.
We aim to contact you on the same day that your referral is received. Some services and advice may be
available straight away. Others may have a waiting list, or specialist advice may have to be checked out first.
We guarantee to offer you privacy for your interview and to keep all information confidential, unless we are
obliged to disclose it for legal reasons.
