Westmead day centre

Westmead is a fully-accessible service for adults
with physical disabilities, and/or a sensory impairment. We provide a range of services for the rehabilitation and respite care of people who have a critical need.

The service has a very positive and happy atmosphere and every effort is made to ensure that people who come to Westmead not only enjoy their time here but also have the opportunity for personal development.

Westmead client side

Staff

Highly qualified staff, with all Care and Activity Officers trained to NVQ level 3 (Promoting Independence).

Keyworkers are assigned to individuals attending the day centre, to ensure that your needs are being met.

Food

We offer a sandwich delivery service at lunchtime. Customers are welcome to bring their own packed lunch
or a microwave meal.

Transport

We do offer transport, but capacity is limited. We can discuss transport needs with you, when you contact
us.

Activities

A programme of regular activities is available both within the day centre itself, and the local community.
We welcome new ideas, and our current activities include:

  • Arts and Crafts
  • Gym
  • Pottery (Westmead has an on-site kiln)
  • Cookery
  • Gardening and visits to garden centres
  • Adult literacy
  • Picture framing
  • Positive thinking
  • Games and quizzes
  • Discussion groups
  • Sport and leisure opportunities
  • Employment and volunteering groups
  • Visits to art galleries and museums

 
We also have a dedicated computer suite (with an additional room for privacy).

Available software includes:

  • REACT Interactive Speech and Language Therapy Programme
  • Dragon Naturally Speaking to help people who have difficulty using a mouse or keyboard.

The services you receive and the activities that you take part in will take into account your social,
religious and cultural needs.

If you are not able to manage a full day, morning or afternoon sessions are available.

Opening times

Westmead is open between 9am and 4pm, Mondays to Thursdays; and between 9am and 3pm on
Fridays. We are closed on bank holidays and at weekends.
