Out and About

Out and About is our new evening and weekend service, primarily aimed at individuals with learning disabilities and individuals with physical disabilities.

This service is available to new and existing clients of Optalis.

The Out and About Service is a provision for vulnerable adults; providing individualised support for our clients to enable them to access their local social groups, hobbies, and community facilities.

Acorn Centre

What we can offer

We are able to offer our clients the following:

- 1:1 support to access the community and attend social activities – we have a choice of skilled,
experienced staff with relevant, up to date training. We will endeavour to match skills and personalities.
We will give you a profile of the staff member so that you know who to expect.

- We invest time finding out what our clients would like to do and research the opportunities available to
them whilst we compile a Directory of Activities appropriate for our client group; which holds a database
of appropriate activities in and around the area for our clients to access with our ongoing support.

- We promote one off events for our regular clients – join our mailing list by giving us your e-mail address
 to us.

- We identify opportunities for sharing staff support where appropriate – where there may be popular
demand for an activity, we will look at sharing resources if appropriate and reduce the cost for our clients.

- We can offer you access to transport, including our specialised vehicles; we have a fleet of cars,
people-carriers and small tail lift vehicles.

- We can offer you competitive care packages tailored to meet your needs.

Activities on offer for Autumn/Winter 2012:

Bowling is an ideal group activity for all ages and abilities, providing lots of fun and it’s a great social
opportunity.  Join us for some friendly competition in a fun and active morning.  Bowling trips organised
for the first Sunday of every month,10am to 12noon.

Two Left Feet: we can support you to attend these fun, easy-to-learn dance classes.  Different types of
dance are taught by a professional dance teacher.  We will support and transport you there and back.
Classes run from 7.30pm to 8.30pm on a fortnightly basis.

The Friday Night Project is held at St Crispins Leisure Centre, 7pm to 9pm every week. This is an
opportunity to dance and socialise in a safe and supportive environment. Our skilled and experienced
staff can support and transport you there and back.

Cooking classes are held in a purpose built, well-equipped kitchen in one of our local community centres.
The classes are run by our very own Rainbow Café Manager and Job Coach.  There's a choice of signing
up to a course of classes, which are held on the first Saturday of each month for three months, and runs
10am to 3pm. Or, you can attend the one-off classes (please enquire for dates). These are very popular.
Book early to avoid disappointment!

A Christmas Disco will be held at the Acorn Community Centre on December 14, between 7pm and 9pm.
There'll be a professional DJ, a raffle and Tombola, and the Café will be open for drinks and snacks.
Party clothes only please!! Come and let your hair down and have a Christmas boogie!!

New activity for 2013!!
