Optalis launches new Rebound Therapy service in Wokingham

Friday 20 July 2018

Rebound Therapy uses trampolines to provide therapeutic exercise and recreation for people requiring a wide range of support, including physical disabilities, learning disabilities, sensory impairments and people with autistic spectrum conditions.

Rebound therapy has been utilised at Optalis’ day centres in the Windsor and Maidenhead area for many years and has gone on to become one of the most popular activities.

The successful therapy service has now been introduced at Westmead Day Service in Wokingham, Berkshire, to benefit the customers there.

The exercise helps to promote balance, facilitate movement, increase or decrease muscle tone and aids relaxation and sensory integration. The sport has also helped customers who struggle with verbal communication to increase their vocalisation.

Julia Harris, Service manager for Optalis’ day centre said: “We’re delighted to offer this extremely beneficial activity to our customers.

“Whether people are doing it for the physical benefits and co-ordination or purely for pleasure, everyone taking part will enjoy the happy and positive atmosphere that comes with Rebound.

“Rebound Therapy has been extremely effective for our customers. It even helps with early onset dementia.

“One customer wouldn’t allow her family to hold her hand but with consistent use of rebound and a boost in confident she is now totally comfortable.”

Wokingham Borough Cllr Philip Murfin attended the launch at Westmead Day Service along with staff from Optalis.
