Greetings from START (Short Term Assessment & Reablement Team)
Tuesday 1 August 2017
It’s been another challenging and busy fortnight for the START team. Well, when I say team I mean everyone apart from me, as I did take a holiday and most pleasant it was. The team did a fabulous job in my absence as they are all committed, dedicated professionals who will put aside their home life to ensure that the service is well run and safe, which is the reason that I enjoy working with them and makes coming to work easier when you have good people working alongside you. In addition to ensuring their own service was run well they went well beyond their remit and helped out another service which really demonstrated how passionately they care.
With the holiday season now in full swing, covering rotas and shifts is becoming more challenging but as ever the START team rise to the challenge. Due to the START and the Occupational Therapists working more closely together we have had some excellent Reablement cases with outstanding results which is a testament to the team and the service we provide.
We appear to have had some very determined customers who were so engaged with the service and intent on regaining their independence that they reduced their need for care, (may I also point out all women, well we are a stubborn bunch). Four of our customers who started with the service on four calls per day, left the service with either no ongoing care needs or minimum support which is an excellent result for all.
We have sadly had to say goodbye to a valued member of the team but who knows what will happen in the future the door is always left open. And we are very pleased to welcome a new member of the team who has been working with Optalis for some time and we know will be asset.
